On July 28, Stellantis announced it has reached an agreement to sell 100% of the equity in its Free2move car-sharing business to Mutares SE & Co. KGaA. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. Free2move offers both short- and long-term “pick-up-and-drop-off-anywhere” car-sharing services, enabling users to book vehicles 24/7 via a dedicated mobile app. Operating across 14 cities in Europe and the United States, Free2move is one of the most geographically extensive shared mobility platforms. This divestiture forms part of Stellantis’ “Fast Lane 2030 Strategic Plan,” which aims to optimize capital allocation and focus resources on core automotive operations, brands, and key technological areas. Stellantis stated that during the transition period, it will prioritize ensuring a smooth handover for customers, partners, and employees. Mutares plans to accelerate Free2move’s transition to a fully electric fleet, enhance customer experience, and focus on meeting municipal demand for urban mobility solutions. As an independent entity under new ownership, Free2move will receive dedicated investment and room for growth.
