Tesla Sues Supplier to Reclaim Cybertruck Equipment, Warns Production Could Halt Within Days

Tesla has filed an emergency lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, seeking to compel parts supplier Angstrom Automotive Group to return Cybertruck production equipment stored at its Troy facility. Tesla warned that if it cannot promptly retrieve the equipment, Cybertruck production could halt within days. According to the complaint, the dispute began on July 13, when Angstrom notified Tesla of its plan to shut down the plant. The two parties subsequently failed to reach an agreement allowing Tesla to reclaim its assets, including die-casting molds, trimming dies, fixtures, cutting tools, inspection gauges, and X-ray equipment. Additionally, a shipment of 700 finished components scheduled for delivery on July 17 has not been fulfilled to date. On July 21, Tesla attempted, accompanied by law enforcement officers, to enter the facility to retrieve its equipment but was denied access. Tesla alleges that Angstrom has since demanded an additional $250,000 per week to keep the plant operational—a move Tesla characterizes as effectively holding its property hostage as leverage in negotiations. Thousands of Cybertrucks already allocated to customers depend on these components for completion, and related inventory is expected to run out within days. Tesla emphasized that its lawsuit seeks only a court order authorizing entry into the facility to recover its own equipment and does not request a ruling on contractual disputes or monetary damages. Angstrom has not yet issued a public response. The court is expected to rule within the next few days on whether to grant Tesla’s request for emergency relief.
