Audi A4L Sales Slide as Replacement Rebranded A5L Sows Lineup Confusion

From:Internet Info Agency 2026-07-28 16:53:00

In the first half of 2026, the Audi A4L sold only 14,181 units in the premium midsize sedan segment—significantly trailing behind the BMW 3 Series (65,448 units) and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (40,993 units). Audi renamed the next-generation A4L as the A5L, with FAW Audi launching a three-box sedan version and SAIC Audi introducing a Sportback coupe variant. This has resulted in the outgoing A4L and two newly named A5L models being sold simultaneously, creating market confusion and fragmenting sales across three essentially related models. The current A4L’s mainstream 40 TFSI variant features front-wheel drive and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, with all-wheel drive available only on higher trims. Its infotainment system, seat comfort, and standard equipment fall short compared to similarly priced domestic new energy vehicles. In the RMB 200,000–300,000 price range, new energy sedans continue to attract buyers with superior performance and lower operating costs, further eroding the A4L’s competitiveness. Consumers widely perceive the A4L as outdated, while expressing concerns about the renamed A5L’s service and maintenance network and resale value stability—factors that are influencing their purchasing decisions.
