BMW's Neue Klasse iX3 Hits 50,000 Units in 9 Months, Setting Brand Record for Fastest Ramp-Up

BMW's new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, has produced its 50,000th all-electric iX3—less than a year after launching production of the Neue Klasse (New Generation) iX3 in late October 2025—setting a new record for the fastest ramp-up of a new model in BMW Group history. Built from the ground up as a greenfield facility, the plant began production with an entirely new vehicle platform. Although initial plans called for a gradual increase in output, strong market demand prompted BMW to introduce a second production shift ahead of schedule in February 2026, moving to two-shift operations. The Debrecen plant currently has an annual production capacity of 150,000 units. Even before reaching full capacity, global orders for the iX3 have already approached 100,000 units. In terms of model variants, alongside the launch version—the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive iX3 50 xDrive—the rear-wheel-drive, single-motor iX3 40 is now available, and the iX3 40 xDrive variant is set to debut soon. A high-performance M Performance version is scheduled for launch in early 2027. Additionally, a true all-electric X3 M performance model is under development. Currently, the Debrecen plant produces only the standard-wheelbase iX3; the long-wheelbase version will be manufactured in China. The plant is also scheduled to begin production of a second Neue Klasse model—the iX4—in November 2026. Positioned as a coupe-style SUV with a more streamlined design, the iX4 is expected to carry a higher price tag than the iX3. Furthermore, iX3 production is slated to expand to BMW’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico in 2027, where it will share assembly lines with the 2 Series Coupe and the 3 Series sedan.
