Anhui Province recently launched a special V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) bidirectional charging and discharging campaign titled “Wanmei Discharge, Enjoy Earnings,” allowing new energy vehicle owners to feed electricity from their vehicles back into the grid during peak demand hours and receive corresponding subsidies. The initiative covers 36 public V2G stations across the province, with discharging operations supported daily from 13:00 to 24:00. Discharge earnings are automatically credited to vehicle owners’ accounts within 24 hours. The provincial subsidy rate is set at RMB 2 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Hefei City adds a municipal subsidy on top of this, raising the total discharge subsidy at public stations to RMB 4 per kWh. Residents who have already installed private bidirectional chargers can further leverage time-of-use electricity pricing differentials, achieving combined earnings exceeding RMB 4.7 per kWh. Some vehicle owners charge overnight during off-peak hours (at approximately RMB 0.35/kWh) and discharge during daytime peak periods to profit from the price spread. Under the program’s rules, each vehicle is limited to discharging a maximum of 100 kWh per day. Assuming a typical household electric vehicle with a full battery capacity of around 50 kWh and reserving 20% to protect battery health, about 40 kWh can be discharged per session. After deducting charging costs, net earnings per discharge session amount to roughly RMB 100, with potential daily profits exceeding RMB 300. On the second day of the campaign’s launch, over 100 vehicles arrived at the Yanglin Road demonstration station in Shushan District, Hefei, causing queues as most drivers came specifically to participate in the V2G operations and claim subsidies.
