China's EV Charging Infrastructure Surpasses 23 Million, with Private Chargers Outpacing Public Ones

As of July 28, data shows that China has a total of 23.057 million charging connectors, an increase of 43.2% year-over-year. Of these, public charging connectors number 5.009 million, up 22.3% year-over-year, while private charging connectors reached 18.048 million, surging 50.4% year-over-year. The total power capacity of public charging piles stands at 247 million kilowatts, with an average power per connector of 49.35 kilowatts, and the proportion of fast-charging equipment continues to rise. The installed electrical capacity for private charging facilities totals 155 million kilowatts. In terms of regional distribution, ten provinces—including Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Shanghai—account for more than 60% of the nation’s total public charging piles. In June 2024, the total electricity consumption of China’s charging and battery-swapping sector reached 14.8 billion kilowatt-hours, up 57.1% year-over-year. During the first half of 2024, China added 2.965 million new charging piles nationwide, including 292,000 public piles and 2.673 million private piles. Over the same period, sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 5.09 million units, resulting in a new pile-to-vehicle ratio of 1:1.7.
