Lei Jun Highlights 30 Years of Chinese Motorsport Evolution: From Foreign Dominance to Xiaomi Sponsorship and Safety Car

In 1996, China held its first motorsport event at the Zhuhai International Circuit, sponsored by foreign brands and featuring exclusively imported vehicles. In 2026, the same venue will host a China GT race named after Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, with the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra serving as the official Safety Car leading the field. In March this year, Xiaomi officially signed agreements with China’s three premier circuit racing series—China GT, CTCC, and CEC—becoming their title partner. On April 20, Lei Jun announced that the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra and YU7 would serve as the official Safety Car and Medical Car, respectively, across all three series to support safe race operations. He emphasized that racetracks are a critical benchmark for evaluating high performance and safety in automobiles, and that refining products to meet track standards helps embed a relentless pursuit of performance and safety into the company’s DNA. Additionally, in mid-July, overseas media revealed spy photos of a new road-testing variant of the Xiaomi SU7. The vehicle is believed to be the most extreme version of the SU7 Ultra, potentially named the SU7 Ultra Extreme, and will reportedly be released in limited quantities. The car features more pronounced aerodynamic enhancements, including a large rear spoiler, a fin-equipped rear diffuser, a more aggressive front fascia, larger front splitter blades, and newly added front wheel arch vents.
