"Smart Driving Blue Light" to Be Disabled; YiJing Auto Vows to Focus on Genuine ADAS Advancement

Zeng Qinglin, General Manager of the Yijing automotive brand, has responded to reports that the "intelligent driving blue indicator light" will be banned. He stated that the company has received relevant notifications and its team is complying with national requirements. According to Zeng, there are two primary reasons for banning the blue light: first, the blue lights currently used by various automakers lack unified standards in terms of brightness and flashing frequency, potentially compromising traffic safety and causing light pollution; second, some drivers deliberately cut in front of or swerve near vehicles displaying the illuminated blue light to test the limits of their intelligent driving systems, creating safety hazards. Zeng explained that the original intent behind the blue light was to communicate externally that “the vehicle is currently under system control,” serving as a friendly form of communication. As intelligent driving technology becomes more widespread, the blue light has gradually evolved into a visible symbol for automakers to showcase their intelligent driving capabilities. However, he acknowledged that current driver-assistance systems vary significantly in performance: for vehicles with strong intelligent driving capabilities, the blue light aids brand promotion, whereas for those with weaker systems, it could become a source of road safety risks. He believes that the new national regulations will help enhance overall road safety and steer the industry away from competing through external visual identifiers toward genuine improvements in intelligent driving capabilities. Although the blue light will be phased out, Zeng emphasized that true intelligent driving technology will continue to advance rapidly. Yijing’s first model, the Yijing X9, rolled off the trial production line on June 8, 2024, at the Chengdu Economic & Technological Development Zone. The vehicle is scheduled for market launch and customer deliveries in the third quarter of 2024, with earlier reports indicating nationwide deliveries would begin in September. The X9 measures 5,301 mm in length, 2,015 mm in width, and 1,820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,120 mm. All variants come equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun Automotive Lighting “trinity”: the HUAWEI XPIXEL million-pixel intelligent projection headlamp, HUAWEI XSCENE in-car laser projector, and HUAWEI XHUD augmented reality head-up display. According to the company’s roadmap, Yijing plans to launch five additional new models over the next three years.
