Following the launch of pre-sales in Japan, BYD’s Seagull RACCO micro electric vehicle (K-Car) received over 5,000 refundable pre-orders within its first week. The prototype had already garnered approximately 30,000 expressions of interest during its debut at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. The vehicle starts at ¥2,145,000 (approximately RMB 88,801) before taxes. The Seagull RACCO measures 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide, and 1,800 mm tall, and is available in six exterior colors: Arctic White, Cosmic Black, Arctic Blue, Midnight Green, Ruby Red, and Cheese Yellow. Ruby Red is exclusive to the top trim, which also features premium synthetic leather seats. With its ultra-high roof design standing at 1,800 mm tall, the Seagull RACCO becomes Japan’s first light-duty BEV equipped with power sliding doors that support hands-free kick-sensor activation. Standard across all trims are heated seats, a heated steering wheel, Level 2 ADAS driver-assistance systems, V2L (vehicle-to-load) external power supply capability, and six airbags. Interior features include a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, synthetic leather upholstery, 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dedicated insulated cup holders, and tire pressure monitoring. The powertrain offers two battery options: the base model comes with a 22.4 kWh battery delivering a WLTC range of 210 km, while the higher-spec version features a 35.84 kWh battery for a WLTC range of up to 320 km. Both variants support DC fast charging at up to 50 kW.
