China-Germany Smart Connected Vehicle Standards Working Group Holds First 2026 Meeting in Beijing, Launches Joint Study on Cross-Border Data Flow

On July 29, 2026, the first meeting of the China-Germany Working Group on Intelligent and Connected Vehicle (ICV) Regulations and Standardization in 2026 was held in Beijing. The meeting was jointly organized by the Subcommittee on Intelligent and Connected Vehicles (SAC/TC114/SC34) under the National Technical Committee on Automotive Standardization and the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). Over 40 expert representatives from organizations and companies—including China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC), VDA, Equipment Development Center, FAW, Changan, SAIC, Geely, BYD, XPeng, Xiaomi, Yinwang, Hesai, TÜV Rheinland, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche, and Bosch—attended the event. The meeting focused on exchanging updates regarding research progress and implementation experiences in ICV standards and regulations between China and Germany, and officially launched the joint project “Study on Standardization Needs for Cross-border Data Flows in the Automotive Sector.” Experts from CATARC, Equipment Development Center, BMW, TÜV Rheinland, and Bosch delivered presentations and engaged in discussions on topics including China’s pilot programs for ICV market access, Europe’s DCAS framework, guidelines for safety assurance of combined driver assistance systems, practical implementation of EU automotive data regulations, standardization plans for automated parking, and global regulatory alignment and best practices.
