On July 30, FREELANDER—the brand jointly launched by Chery and Jaguar Land Rover—announced that the first production unit of its debut model, the FREELANDER 8, has officially rolled off the assembly line and will open for pre-orders on August 10. The brand plans to launch six models within five years starting from 2026, covering a range of powertrain options including plug-in hybrid, battery electric, and extended-range electric vehicles. Each model will follow a “1+3” global product matrix strategy, comprising a China left-hand-drive version, an international left-hand-drive version, an EU-compliant version, and a right-hand-drive version, targeting global markets. FREELANDER has set a mid-term goal of achieving stable annual sales exceeding 300,000 units within three to five years, with an anticipated sales ratio of 1:1 between domestic and overseas markets. The brand considers initial success achieved if monthly sales stabilize between 5,000 and 8,000 units while maintaining high delivery quality and strong user satisfaction. The brand operates with a relatively independent decision-making structure, and both shareholders have so far provided investment and support in line with expectations. The FREELANDER 8 comes standard with Huawei’s Qiankun intelligent driving system.
