Tesla Model Y L Upgrades Thermal Management: Faster Cooling, Extended Range

Tesla has introduced multiple thermal management enhancements for the Model Y L, focusing on cabin temperature control and the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system. Featuring a three-row, six-seat layout, the vehicle has recently commenced initial customer deliveries in the U.S. and is now on display at Tesla stores. Key improvements include: - Up to 15% faster cabin cooling; - Up to 15 minutes reduction in time required to reach target temperature under direct sunlight; - A 23% improvement in thermal efficiency during hot weather, translating to approximately 7 additional miles (about 11.3 km) of real-world driving range; - After a 25-minute Supercharging session in high ambient temperatures, the vehicle can recover an extra ~10 miles (about 16 km) of range. On the technical side, the Model Y L employs a new brazable AlNi3 alloy material in its air conditioning lines to minimize heat leakage and enhance system efficiency. Compared to Model Y vehicles from 2024 and earlier, the roof glass now reflects up to 8 times more solar energy, reducing solar radiation entering the cabin by as much as 30%. These upgrades to the glass and thermal management system are designed to address the increased thermal load resulting from the vehicle’s expansive glass surfaces, maintaining cabin comfort while reducing battery energy consumption. U.S. customers can now experience the Model Y L at Tesla stores, with initial deliveries expected to begin in September.
