Tesla Model Y Long Wheelbase Upgrades Thermal System: 15% Faster Cooling, +11 km Range

Tesla has implemented multiple upgrades to the cabin thermal management and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system of the Model Y Long Wheelbase (Model Y L). Through thermal engineering optimizations, the new vehicle achieves up to a 15% faster cabin cooling rate under direct sunlight, reducing the time needed to reach the target temperature by as much as 15 minutes. In hot weather, thermal efficiency improves by 23%, translating to an approximate range increase of 11.3 kilometers (7 miles) in real-world driving conditions. Additionally, after a 25-minute Supercharging session, the vehicle can recover an extra ~16 kilometers (~10 miles) of range. The Model Y L features a new brazable AlNi3 alloy material that minimizes heat leakage and enhances HVAC system efficiency. Its roof glass can reflect up to eight times more solar energy, reducing solar radiation entering the cabin by as much as 30%. Offered in a three-row, six-seat configuration, the Model Y Long Wheelbase was first launched in the Chinese market last summer and debuted in the U.S. earlier this month, including an exclusive Launch Series edition.
