Toyota Motor Corporation released its preliminary financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, reporting consolidated net revenues of JPY 13.53 trillion, an increase of 10.38% year-over-year. Net income attributable to owners of parent company stood at JPY 1.48 trillion, up 75.56% year-over-year, equivalent to approximately RMB 63.4 billion at current exchange rates. Global consolidated vehicle sales for the quarter totaled 2.395 million units, a slight decline of 0.7% compared to the same period last year. Despite the significant rise in net profit, operating income decreased by JPY 1.026 trillion year-over-year to JPY 1.06 trillion, with the operating margin falling from 9.5% to 7.9%. The surge in net profit was primarily driven by a substantial increase in "other income," which rose from JPY 86 billion in the same quarter last year to JPY 9.003 trillion, largely due to foreign exchange gains resulting from yen depreciation. Toyota also revised upward its full-year guidance for fiscal year 2027: it now expects consolidated revenue of JPY 54 trillion (up from JPY 51 trillion), operating income of JPY 3.4 trillion (up from JPY 3.0 trillion), and net income of JPY 3.25 trillion (up from JPY 3.0 trillion). The company announced a share buyback program of up to JPY 1 trillion and plans to cancel 200 million treasury shares. However, the revised full-year net profit forecast of JPY 3.25 trillion remains below the previous fiscal year's figure of JPY 3.848 trillion.
