Xiaomi Auto released its 267th episode of "Answers to Netizens' Questions" in the early hours of August 4, addressing concerns regarding the Pengcheng models' wading capability and body structure. The company stated that the Xiaomi Pengcheng N70 Max and N90 Max share identical hardware configurations related to wading performance. Both models feature a dedicated wading mode; however, the N70 Max has a maximum wading depth of 650 mm—100 mm lower than the N90 Max. This difference is primarily due to the N70 Max’s smaller dimensions and lighter curb weight, which cause buoyancy effects to manifest earlier and tire traction to become more sensitive during wading. As a result, the N70 Max underwent specific tuning to ensure effective power delivery to the ground within its 650 mm wading limit. To enhance wading performance, Xiaomi Auto upgraded waterproof sealing on 24 critical vehicle components. These include an IPX8/IPX9K-rated waterproof battery pack, a “triple-layer waterproof barrier” in the air conditioning system, and dual-seal partitions in the A/B/C-pillar cavities. Additionally, the range extender’s air intake was relocated beneath the front windshield, and the cabin pressure relief valve was moved above the tailgate. When wading mode is activated, two wading radar sensors continuously monitor water depth and dynamically adjust torque output and power distribution. The vehicles also support an emergency floating escape function, ensuring no significant water ingress into the cabin for up to three minutes under extreme conditions. The company emphasized that the emergency floating capability is solely a safety redundancy measure and urged users not to attempt wading through unknown water depths or road conditions.
