U.S. electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors delivered 3,953 vehicles in the second quarter of 2024, a 19% year-over-year increase. The company announced an "operational restructuring" initiative aimed at improving its financial performance through cost reductions, lower cash burn, and business streamlining. Lucid expects to achieve cumulative savings of $1.4 billion by 2026, with the majority stemming from reduced production volumes. Capital expenditures will be cut by approximately $500 million, and previously announced workforce reductions are expected to generate annual savings of $158 million. Lucid has increased its number of after-sales technicians, expanded its mobile repair services, and shortened wait times for customer service appointments. The company stated it will tightly manage spending, investments, and capital allocation, and proactively reduce production in line with anticipated demand to free up working capital and maintain appropriate inventory levels. On the product front, Lucid’s Robotaxi projects in partnership with Uber and Nuro are now its top priority. Nearly 100 test vehicles are currently operating in the San Francisco Bay Area. Deliveries of the Gravity SUV—used for production validation—have already begun. The final production version of the Robotaxi is scheduled to roll off the assembly line in Q4 2024, with commercial service expected to launch by the end of 2026. Meanwhile, the midsize crossover Cosmos is undergoing validation, durability testing, crash certification, and battery pack manufacturing verification, and has already commenced cold-weather testing in New Zealand. The Cosmos program has been delayed, and its designated production facility—the AM2 plant in Saudi Arabia—is not expected to be ready for volume production until the second half of 2027. Lucid emphasized that the vehicle will only be launched once all processes and quality requirements have been fully met.
