OpenAI is developing its first AI hardware product, expected to launch in 2027. The device, co-developed with former Apple designer Jony Ive, features a donut-like shape, measures approximately 115.8 cubic centimeters—about the size of a hockey puck—and is designed for home use with one-handed portability. It has no display but includes movable components, some of which automatically shift to indicate response or interaction status, along with integrated lighting, camera systems, and other sensors. Interaction resembles the voice mode of the mobile ChatGPT app, powered by a more advanced model enabling near-human conversational experiences. The product is expected to retail between $300 and $400.
