Oracle Bans OpenJDK Developers from Submitting AI-Generated Code

From:Internet Info Agency 2026-08-09 22:02:00

On August 9, Oracle notified OpenJDK developers that submissions of AI-generated code are prohibited. According to the new policy, contributions to the OpenJDK community must not include any content generated by large language models, diffusion models, or deep learning systems—covering code, text, pull requests, email communications, wiki pages, and bug reports. Oracle stated that this measure is driven by concerns over intellectual property risks, as well as increased cybersecurity risks and the added burden on code review processes. Developers may still use AI tools privately for code review, debugging, and research related to the OpenJDK project, but no AI-generated content may be submitted to the code repository.
