At approximately 8 a.m. on April 2, a vehicle equipped with NCA (Navigation-guided Cruise Assist) advanced driver assistance system was traveling on an elevated expressway in Shanghai when a Mazda 6 ahead collided with a dump truck during simultaneous lane changes, causing the Mazda to spin out of control across lanes. The vehicle’s AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) system activated within two seconds, reducing its speed from 71 km/h to 0 and preventing a collision with the out-of-control Mazda. Dashcam footage showed that at the time of the incident, the recording vehicle was in the second lane from the left. The Mazda 6 had just merged from an on-ramp and was moving left, while the dump truck was simultaneously changing lanes to the right; the two vehicles collided due to blind-spot visibility issues. The vehicle owner stated that without AEB intervention, timely braking might not have been possible.
