Mitsubishi’s ASX VR-e EV, Based on Foxtron Bria, Heads to Australia

Mitsubishi has officially named its new all-electric vehicle for the Australian market the ASX VR-e. Based on the Foxtron Bria—co-developed and manufactured by Foxtron (a subsidiary of Foxconn)—the ASX VR-e features platform design by Pininfarina and is produced in Taiwan. It is scheduled to launch in Australia in Q4 2024. The ASX VR-e retains Mitsubishi’s long-standing ASX nameplate and incorporates the “VR” badge, a designation historically associated with several of Mitsubishi’s iconic high-performance models. This is not merely a rebadged model; both front and rear styling, wheel designs, and interior trim elements have been comprehensively reworked to reflect Mitsubishi’s design language. The vehicle also features an S-Duct aerodynamic structure and an active grille that automatically opens and closes depending on driving conditions. Extensive testing and tuning have been carried out by both global and local Australian engineering teams, with a strong focus on optimizing powertrain performance and handling responsiveness. The currently available Foxtron Bria comes in two variants: a rear-wheel-drive base and mid-spec version powered by a 171 kW rear-mounted motor, and an all-wheel-drive Bria Pioneer dual-motor variant delivering a peak output of 298 kW and accelerating from 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Both variants are equipped with a 57.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Under NEDC standards, the RWD model offers a range of 516 km, while the AWD flagship achieves 466 km. Both support DC fast charging at up to 134 kW. Measuring 4,315 mm in length, 1,885 mm in width, and 1,535 mm in height, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase, the Foxtron Bria is positioned as a compact crossover or a raised hatchback.
