Microsoft plans to launch its Maia 300 AI chip in the fall of 2024, potentially as early as September. The chip belongs to the Maia series, which was first introduced in November 2023 to support large-scale cloud-based AI services. Microsoft is currently in talks with TSMC to secure production capacity for the Maia 300, aiming to deliver at least 300,000 units by 2027. The company hopes its in-house AI chips will reduce its reliance on NVIDIA’s chips and encourage companies like Anthropic to adopt its silicon. Microsoft has not yet responded to inquiries regarding this matter.
