BMW and Qualcomm Sign 10-Year Chip Supply Deal to Co-Develop Autonomous Driving Systems

BMW Group has signed a ten-year long-term supply agreement with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. Under the agreement, Qualcomm will provide BMW with computing chips for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and next-generation intelligent cockpits. After three years of joint development, the two companies have launched the Snapdragon Ride-Pilot autonomous driving assistance system, based on Qualcomm’s automotive system-on-chip (SoC). This system complies with New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) standards and enables hands-free driving on both highways and urban roads. The system has already been deployed in the BMW iX3—the first production vehicle built on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform—to support features such as adaptive cruise control and lane-change assist. Qualcomm will also offer this jointly developed autonomous driving solution to other automakers. Additionally, in February 2026, BMW signed a long-term agreement with ZF Friedrichshafen AG for the latter to develop and supply components including a new generation of 8-speed automatic transmissions (8AT). In May 2026, Mercedes-Benz also entered into a long-term supply contract with Bosch, under which Bosch will provide next-generation drive motors. While the financial terms of the Mercedes-Benz–Bosch deal were not disclosed, it is estimated to be worth several billion euros.
