FREELANDER Discovery 8 Debuts Globally with Standard Ventilated and Heated Three-Row Seating

On August 14, FREELANDER unveiled its debut model—the Freeland Rover—at a global premiere and pre-sale launch event held in the evening. The vehicle features a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, measures 5,118 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm, and comes standard across all trims with an 800V extended-range platform, Huawei’s Qiankun ADS Advanced Intelligent Driving System, and the world’s first 896-line LiDAR. Its cabin is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chip and a 46.3-inch 8K remote display. In terms of powertrain, the new model combines a 1.5T range extender with a 60.3 kWh CATL Xiaoyao hybrid battery, supporting 6C ultra-fast charging and delivering a combined driving range exceeding 1,000 km. Off-road capabilities include the i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system, front/mid/rear triple differential locks, and dual-chamber air suspension, enabling a wading depth of 900 mm. The third-row seats offer a seat height of 323 mm, longitudinal legroom of 834 mm, and vertical headroom of 960 mm. With a second-row seat ground clearance of 216 mm, third-row passengers can extend their feet beneath the second row. Natural lighting for the third row is enhanced by a 1.15-square-meter glazed area and triangular side windows. A lowered leg-well design between the third-row footwells provides 966 mm of transverse legroom. To achieve this layout, the engineering team re-engineered six major chassis systems, upgraded the floor assembly to a 60-in-1 integrated structure, reinforced five structural areas, and optimized six die-cast components—increasing material costs by 39.5%. For comfort, all three rows feature heated and ventilated seats, with ventilation implemented via an intake-based airflow design. Safety features include a 3,140 mm dual-inflator side curtain airbag (extending coverage to the third row), a 123 mm rearward extension protective structure behind third-row headrests, independent side airbags for all three rows, and a high-strength hot-formed steel safety cage. Crash tests demonstrate that, in a rear-end collision at 50 km/h involving an 8.6-ton heavy truck, there is zero intrusion into the third-row occupant space. Following its market launch, the Freeland Rover will compete directly against flagship six-seater models such as the Li Auto L8 and Aito M8.
