Porsche Plans to Discontinue Taycan by 2030

According to German media reports, Porsche plans to discontinue the Taycan model by 2030. The Porsche Works Council has reached a preliminary agreement in principle with management to gradually phase out Taycan production around 2030, although the agreement has not yet been formalized in writing. The Taycan, Porsche’s first all-electric four-door sports sedan, made its debut in 2019 and has since seen multiple variants and annual updates. The 2027 Taycan will feature a new E-shift electronic gear selector. Last month, Porsche CEO Michael Leiters stated that there were no immediate plans to discontinue the Taycan. However, recent reports indicate that demand for the sports sedan segment—where the Taycan competes—has weakened due to continuously declining sales, cannibalization from the newly launched Macan EV, and growing market preference for larger SUVs. Reports also note that Porsche had considered relocating Taycan production to another plant but ultimately opted for a gradual phase-out. The plan remains preliminary and has not yet been finalized.
