The Cherokee Nation recently announced a ban on the construction of large-scale data centers on its lands and trust lands. Cherokee Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. cited a 37-page investigative report indicating that 64% of tribal residents oppose such developments, citing concerns over energy consumption, air quality, and the protection of cultural resources. Hoskin stated that the tribe will not support any hyperscale data center project located on tribal land without proper consultation.
