Mercedes-Benz globally unveiled the new generation of its C-Class on August 17. Since its debut in 1982, the C-Class has accumulated sales exceeding 12 million units worldwide. The new model debuts with the illuminated grille previously reserved for the S-Class, featuring Star Emblem headlights and taillights, DIGITAL LIGHT technology, and a unique welcome animation that projects the three-pointed star emblem onto the ground via the exterior mirrors when the doors open. Inside, the cabin features an upgraded Burmester® 3D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos support, comprising 15 speakers, along with a new multifunction steering wheel equipped with toggle switches and scroll wheels. The intelligent system is built on Mercedes-Benz’s proprietary MB.OS architecture, enabling continuous over-the-air (OTA) updates. The cabin will integrate Doubao, a large AI model developed by ByteDance. Specifically for the Chinese market, the vehicle will feature an urban and highway navigation-assisted driving system co-developed with Momenta, claimed to be usable “anywhere in China.” At launch in China, it will be equipped with Momenta’s R7 “World Model.” Under the hood, the new C-Class is powered by an updated 2.0-liter M254 EVO four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a second-generation integrated starter-generator (ISG), delivering up to 17 kW of additional power and 205 N·m of extra torque. A 48-volt electrical system enables coasting and energy recuperation, while an electric auxiliary compressor ensures millisecond-level turbo response. The suspension has been specially tuned to balance ride comfort and dynamic performance. Mercedes-Benz notes that the specifications announced are for the global version, and the final configuration for the Chinese-market model may differ upon official launch.
