McLaren F1 GTR Sells for $34.65 Million, Setting UK Vehicle Auction Record

A McLaren F1 GTR formerly owned by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason sold for $34.655 million (approximately RMB 234 million) on August 17, setting a new record for the highest price ever paid at auction for a British vehicle. Chassis number 10R, one of only nine F1 GTRs built in 1996, was initially used by McLaren for promotional purposes and participated in pre-qualifying tests for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After its racing career ended, Mason purchased the car from McLaren and converted it into a road-legal version, with subsequent maintenance handled by Lanzante. The car sustained damage in 2009 when a journalist drove it into a wheat field and was involved in another incident in 2017 when Mason himself crashed it during the Goodwood Members' Meeting. It was fully restored after both accidents. The final hammer price includes buyer's fees, making it the most valuable McLaren F1—and British car—ever sold at auction.
