On August 18, 2024, Tesla announced that the 6 millionth battery pack had rolled off the production line at its Gigafactory Shanghai. Located in the Lingang Special Area of Shanghai, the factory spans 860,000 square meters and serves as Tesla’s first overseas vehicle manufacturing facility and China’s first wholly foreign-owned vehicle manufacturing project. Production began at the plant in late 2019. In August 2024, Tesla’s 10 millionth electric drive unit was produced at Gigafactory Shanghai. By December 2025, the 4 millionth Tesla vehicle manufactured in China is set to roll off the production line. As of 2024, Gigafactory Shanghai has accounted for nearly half of Tesla’s global electric vehicle deliveries over the past six years. At the end of July 2024, Tesla announced that its 10 millionth electric vehicle had been produced globally.
