In July, Chery Automobile acquired Nissan’s factory in Rosslyn, near Pretoria, South Africa. According to reports on August 12, Chery plans to produce plug-in hybrid vehicles, battery electric vehicles, and Jetour-branded models at this facility. The plant already has assembly infrastructure, skilled workers, and established supply relationships. Previously, BAIC had already built an assembly facility in South Africa, and Great Wall Motor has also established local assembly operations and a parts distribution network.
