Toyota recently confirmed that all approximately 200 to 250 units of the GR GT supercar destined for the U.S. market were sold out even before public ordering opened. Prospective buyers must undergo Toyota’s vetting process and receive approval before placing an order. The vehicle is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with a hybrid assist system, delivering over 641 horsepower and 627 lb-ft (850 N·m) of peak torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Andrew Gilleland, Senior Vice President of Automotive Operations at Toyota, stated that production volumes were intentionally kept below demand to ensure the cars go to genuine drivers rather than scalpers. It remains unclear whether buyers will be required to sign agreements committing them not to resell the vehicles within a specified period.
