Swedish Freight Firm Einride Orders 500 Tesla Semi Trucks, Setting Public Order Record

On August 18, Swedish freight technology company Einride announced it would deploy 500 Tesla Semi electric trucks in the United States, marking the largest publicly disclosed Tesla Semi order to date. The company currently operates approximately 250 electric trucks; once all 500 Semis are delivered, its fleet will expand to around 750 vehicles. Deliveries of the first trucks will begin in September, with the remainder rolled out over the following 24 months across California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, and Georgia. All vehicles will be integrated into Einride’s Saga software platform, which centrally manages route planning and charging schedules. Previously, the largest publicly known Tesla Semi order was placed in May by WattEV for 370 units. According to Tesla’s April pricing, the long-range Semi (with a range of 500 miles or 805 kilometers) costs about $290,000, while the standard-range version is priced at roughly $260,000. Based on these figures, the total value of Einride’s 500-truck order is estimated at $130 million to $145 million. Einride stated that this deployment is “fully funded through third-party financing arrangements,” though it did not disclose the financing institutions involved, specific terms, or whether the vehicles will appear on its balance sheet. Tesla’s Semi production facility adjacent to its Nevada Gigafactory has an annual design capacity of 50,000 units. Since ramping up mass production in April, output has continued to increase steadily. Some analysts previously projected that Tesla could deliver between 5,000 and 15,000 Semis annually by 2026.
