GM Mandates Use of New OEM Parts for ADAS Repairs

General Motors has recently issued new guidelines to repair facilities, mandating that only brand-new, genuine GM parts be used when servicing Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) modules. This requirement applies to components such as radar units, cameras, sensors, control modules, wiring harnesses, and mounting brackets. Salvaged, recycled, refurbished, remanufactured, aftermarket, and secondhand parts are strictly prohibited for use in ADAS repairs. GM stated that using non-genuine or non-new parts could compromise the system’s reliability and safety. Additionally, repair facilities must follow officially approved repair and calibration procedures to ensure the ADAS functions properly after collision-related repairs. GM also cautioned that accessories—including paint protection film, vehicle wraps, window tinting, hood protection devices, bicycle racks, roof racks, light bars, rooftop cargo boxes—as well as non-OEM lift kits or any modifications altering the vehicle’s suspension, steering, wheels, or tires—may adversely affect ADAS performance.
