Chery's Shenxing 8 Website Accused of Using NIO ES8 Body-in-White Images and Copycat Copy

On August 19, an automotive blogger exposed that the official website of Land Rover Freelander’s new model, the Freelander 8—a brand under Chery—used NIO ES8’s white body structure diagram and renderings on its promotional page, along with highly similar accompanying text. Netizens pointed out that data labeled on the page, such as “torsional rigidity of 40,136 N·m/deg,” matched publicly disclosed specifications of the NIO ES8, and that the front engine compartment layout exhibited characteristics typical of a pure electric vehicle. Following public attention, the Freelander 8 website replaced the related images, and the original page briefly appeared blank. The Freelander 8 is the debut model from FREELANDER, a new energy luxury brand co-developed by Chery and Jaguar Land Rover. Measuring 5,118 mm in length with a 3,040 mm wheelbase, it features a 2+2+2 six-seat configuration. The vehicle is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering a combined output of 610 kW and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. It adopts an 800V high-voltage extended-range architecture, paired with a 60.3 kWh CATL battery pack, offering a CLTC pure-electric range of 310 km and a total driving range exceeding 1,000 km. Earlier this year, in March, Chery’s all-electric compact car, the QQ3, faced accusations that its official app interface design, color scheme, typography, and infotainment system UI layout closely resembled those of NIO’s Firefly model.
