New Energy Vehicle Sales Surpass 60% of Monthly New Car Sales for First Time in July 2026

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in July 2026, production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 1.576 million and 1.561 million units, respectively, representing year-on-year increases of 26.8% and 23.7%. That month, NEV sales accounted for over 60% of total new vehicle sales for the first time, and their cumulative share of total sales also surpassed 50% for the first time. Domestic NEV sales in July totaled 1.008 million units, down 10% month-on-month and 2.8% year-on-year. Exports reached 553,000 units, up 5.7% month-on-month and 1.5 times year-on-year. From January to July 2026, NEV production and sales totaled 9.014 million and 9.007 million units, respectively, up 9.5% and 9.6% year-on-year. Domestic cumulative sales amounted to 6.098 million units, down 11.8% year-on-year, while cumulative exports reached 2.909 million units, surging 1.2 times compared to the same period last year.
