Tesla Breaks Ground on Austin Supercharger Site, Plans for 80 Wireless Chargers

Tesla has recently begun construction of a large-scale charging facility at 405 East St. Elmo Road in Austin, Texas. The project will be implemented in two phases: the first phase plans to install 48 V4 Superchargers powered by 12 V3.5 Supercharger cabinets; the second phase will add infrastructure supporting 80 wireless chargers. Site plans indicate that the project involves an upgrade of Tesla’s existing parking lot, including the installation of charging stalls, transformers, lighting, security cameras, and Wi-Fi access points. Tesla has already been using the site for logistics operations, with on-site signage identifying it as a delivery and pickup location for transport vehicles. The company intends to convert previously acquired warehouse units and adjacent parcels into a logistics area, which will later be further developed into a Supercharger station. Although Cybercab currently features a rear bumper charging port, Tesla plans to eventually make it fully compatible with wireless charging. The timing of this charging station’s construction aligns with Tesla’s upcoming Cybercab unveiling event, which the company has confirmed and to which it has invited existing Robotaxi users.
