Tesla’s submitted permit documents reveal that the company is constructing a dedicated Robotaxi charging hub directly across from its St. Elmo Service Center in Austin, Texas. The parking facility will feature approximately 128 spaces and will be built in two phases: Phase one will install 48 Superchargers specifically for Robotaxi fleets, while phase two may incorporate wireless inductive charging technology. This site is among Tesla’s first dedicated Robotaxi charging hubs. Tesla has already planned similar facilities in five locations: Austin, Phoenix, San Antonio, Irving (in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex), and Las Vegas. Tesla has informed employees that public test rides in its Cybercab autonomous vehicles could begin as early as the end of August in Austin. Tesla’s official Robotaxi account is currently running a giveaway through August 23 to invite users to experience these initial public test rides. The Cybercab is a fully autonomous vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals and received Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval for wireless charging in February. Tesla’s long-term vision is to establish a fully wireless fleet operation system relying entirely on inductive charging, eliminating the need for NACS charging ports. Currently, Tesla’s Robotaxi service is operational in Miami, Orlando, and Tampa in Florida, as well as Austin, Dallas, and Houston in Texas.
