BMW Group announced that the locally produced long-wheelbase all-electric BMW i3, exclusively developed for the Chinese market, will make its official debut at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21. The vehicle is manufactured at BMW’s Shenyang plant. Built on BMW’s Neue Klasse (New Class) dedicated EV architecture, the new i3 features an 800V high-voltage platform, the sixth-generation eDrive electric powertrain, and cylindrical-cell battery packs. The China-made long-wheelbase i3 will be offered in four variants: i3-30L, i3-40L, i3-50L, and the flagship performance model, i3 M60L xDrive. The i3 M60L xDrive is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering a combined maximum output of 630 horsepower. In terms of design, the Neue Klasse i3 adopts BMW’s new family design language, replacing the traditional vertical kidney grille with a seamless, horizontal front fascia. Internationally, the standard Neue Klasse i3 began accepting reservations in mid-June and entered series production at BMW’s Munich plant on August 6, with deliveries to European customers scheduled to commence at the end of September. Following a four-year transformation, the Munich plant is expected to produce only fully electric vehicles starting in 2027.
