Amazon announced today that it is now offering Alexa+ for free on all compatible Fire TV devices in the United States, removing the requirement for an Amazon Prime membership. Previously, non-Prime users had to pay $19.99 per month to access the service, and Alexa+ was initially available only on newer Fire TV devices. With this update, all current-generation Amazon Fire TV Sticks, Fire TV Cubes, Amazon Ember smart TVs, and Hisense and Panasonic smart TVs with built-in Alexa+ support will automatically receive the service—no additional app downloads or separate subscriptions required. Alexa+ features include conversational search, smart home control, and AI-powered recommendations. Users can make requests based on criteria such as genre, age suitability, or popularity—for example, “Recommend a highly rated thriller”—without needing to name a specific title. The service also enables smart home functions like displaying live feeds from Ring cameras directly on the TV. According to Amazon, Alexa+ users on Fire TV engage in nearly twice as many conversations as they did with the original Alexa.
