According to Seres' disclosed financial report for the first half of 2026, the company reported revenue of RMB 57.493 billion, a year-over-year decline of 7.87%. Its net profit attributable to shareholders swung from a profit of RMB 2.941 billion in the same period last year to a loss of RMB 1.717 billion. The company attributed this to its main models being in a transitional phase of product iteration, during which economies of scale in production capacity and sales have not been fully realized. In the same period, Seres recorded credit and asset impairment losses totaling RMB 1.862 billion, including approximately RMB 1.75 billion related to impairments of non-patented technologies and development expenditures. In the first half of 2026, Seres’ cumulative new energy vehicle (NEV) sales grew by only 3.87% year-over-year—a significant slowdown. Starting in May, monthly sales declined year-over-year consecutively, with the drop widening to 45.65% in July. On April 22, the Aito brand launched the M6, followed by the all-new M9 on May 27, establishing a five-SUV lineup ranging from the M5 to the M9, priced between approximately RMB 200,000 and RMB 600,000. The M6 received over 10,000 "large deposits" (non-refundable reservations) within 15 minutes of launch and achieved sales of 18,000 units in its first full month on the market. The all-new M9 rebounded to monthly sales of around 10,000 units in its first complete sales month after launch. However, total Aito sales fell from about 40,000 units in January to 22,600 units in July—a decline of more than 40%. During the same period, M7 sales dropped from 26,500 units in January to fewer than 5,000 units in July, M8 sales fell by over 50%, and the M5 gradually became marginalized. On March 23, 2026, after Seres introduced new versions of the M7 and M8 equipped with 896-line LiDAR, the automotive quality complaint platform Chezhili.com saw a sudden surge in user complaints. Issues included “immediate upgrades right after delivery,” “existing hardware unable to support upgrades,” and “lack of disclosure about imminent model updates at time of purchase.” Between March 27 and 28, 27 out of 30 M7-related complaints listed on a single page of the platform directly referenced LiDAR upgrades or transitions between old and new models. As of July 2026, cumulative sales of the Aito M9 series reached 9,639 units; sales of the 2025-model M9 had already declined to 1,634 units before the launch of the all-new M9. Following its model update in September 2025, the M7 saw sales peak at nearly 30,000 units but fell again to below 5,000 units by July 2026.
