By 2026, the global energy storage market will enter a phase of synchronized growth across multiple regions. South Korean battery giants Samsung SDI, SK On, and LG Energy Solution plan to double their combined annual U.S. battery production capacity from 300 GWh to 600 GWh by the end of 2026, shifting their strategic focus toward energy storage. Industry analysts forecast that global shipments of energy storage cells will continue rising between 2026 and 2030, potentially reaching 2,200 GWh by 2030. Beyond China, the U.S., and Europe, emerging markets—including the Middle East, Latin America, Australia, Southeast Asia, and Africa—are rapidly unleashing demand for large-scale energy storage systems. Chinese energy storage companies are accelerating their overseas manufacturing expansion. Sungrow Power Supply is building an energy storage system manufacturing plant in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone, with a planned annual capacity of 10 GWh. The facility is expected to commence operations in April 2027—just seven months after signing the agreement—marking Sungrow’s first energy storage base in the Middle East and Africa. Egypt aims to achieve a 45% share of renewable energy in its power mix by 2028 and is actively encouraging foreign investment in the Suez Canal Special Economic Zone, attracting Chinese firms such as Gotion High-Tech, Chune Energy, Huawei Digital Power, and Hithium. In Europe, companies like Sungrow and Hithium are advancing local production capacity; in the Americas, BYD and LONGi Green Energy have announced new initiatives; and in Southeast Asia, EVE Energy has completed Phase II of its Malaysian facility. Since 2026, at least eight Chinese energy storage companies have announced or moved forward with overseas factory plans. Chinese enterprises are transitioning their international strategy from simple product exports to a deeper model of globalization centered on “local capacity establishment + ecosystem co-creation.”
