On August 25, 2024, Lotus Technology announced the completion of its full integration of Lotus UK, its British operations. As of August 21, 2026, Lotus Technology officially holds 100% ownership of Lotus UK, bringing both the Hethel-based sports car manufacturing operations and Lotus Engineering’s consultancy business under its umbrella. The transaction also incorporates Lotus Advance Technologies Sdn Bhd into Lotus Technology. The Hethel facility, responsible for producing the Emira and Evija models, will now operate under the same management system as Lotus Technology’s electric SUV and sedan programs. This integration is part of the Focus 2030 strategy, aimed at combining Lotus’s engineering expertise accumulated in the UK with its electrified vehicle platforms. Previously, chassis development in Hethel and Lotus Technology’s EV programs progressed separately; following integration, both will be aligned under a unified roadmap. Lotus has recently reduced headcount at its Hethel plant. Historically, Lotus Engineering has provided consulting services to other automakers and Tier 1 suppliers in areas such as lightweight structures, aerodynamics, and chassis dynamics—capabilities that will now be prioritized for Lotus’s own product development. Additionally, Lotus has begun sourcing V6 and V8 engines from Renault and Geely, scaling back investment in internal combustion engine development at Hethel to focus resources on its electrification initiatives.
