On August 27, Claude Cowork in the Claude desktop app introduced a built-in browser feature, allowing users to directly assign web-based tasks to Claude without needing to install additional extensions or perform extra setup. This built-in browser operates independently from the user’s regular browser and will not access or share any content from the user’s default browser unless explicitly chosen by the user. The built-in browser supports importing login credentials from Chrome, Edge, or Firefox to maintain website login states. Users can selectively import login information for specific sites they need, though banking, email, and single sign-on (SSO) websites are excluded from import by default. This feature is rolling out this week to Pro, Max, and Team users. Enterprise administrators have been able to enable it organization-wide starting August 27. Users can switch between “Claude in Chrome” and the built-in browser under Settings → Cowork → Preferred Browser: the former is ideal for interacting with currently open webpages and already-logged-in accounts, while the latter is designed for tasks directly delegated to Claude. If users access Claude only via the web and haven’t launched the desktop app, they’ll still need to use Claude in Chrome to enable browser interaction capabilities.
