On August 28, Li Xiang, CEO of Li Auto, stated during the company’s Q2 2026 earnings call that Li Auto will begin rolling out its self-developed battery technology across its entire vehicle lineup starting in the second half of 2026. Li emphasized that the move to develop batteries in-house is not due to shortcomings in existing suppliers’ products, but rather to secure core technological barriers. He noted that in the era of embodied intelligence, batteries and chips represent the most critical strategic barriers for Li Auto, and vehicles featuring superior three-electric (triple-E) technologies will be the company’s core competitive advantage. Li also clarified that developing its own Maha chips does not diminish NVIDIA’s status as the world’s leading chip brand, just as its in-house battery development does not affect CATL’s position as a top global battery manufacturer. According to Li Auto’s financial report for the first half of fiscal year 2026, released on August 26, the company reported total revenue of RMB 48.65 billion, a 13.4% year-over-year decline; a net loss attributable to shareholders of RMB 3.994 billion, swinging from profit to loss compared to the same period last year; and a gross margin of 9.5%.
