On August 27, Timo Resch, CEO of Porsche North America, confirmed that the current hybrid system used in the 911 GTS cannot be integrated with a manual transmission due to fundamental architectural constraints. At the core of this hybrid system is a permanent-magnet synchronous motor, which is embedded within the mechanical shaft cavity of the 8-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. The addition of hybrid components has reconfigured the spatial layout and torque transfer path of the powertrain, making it impossible to mate the existing 7-speed manual transmission with this system without altering the wheelbase or the physical structure of the engine compartment. Resch also stated that Porsche’s Weissach engineering team has already initiated research into potential solutions for integrating electrified powertrains with multi-plate clutch manual transmissions.
