Meta Slashes Anthropic AI Spending, Shifts to In-House Tools

From:Internet Info Agency 2026-08-28 17:41:00

On August 28, according to media reports, Meta had projected in April this year that it would spend approximately $10 billion on Anthropic's AI services. As external AI service prices have risen, Meta has ended its internal "token-maximization" competition and shifted more of its AI demand toward in-house tools. As a result, in June, Meta revised down its full-year AI-related spending forecast to "several billion dollars." Meta is one of Anthropic’s major customers, though the two companies are also competitors. Meta previously used Anthropic’s AI models during internal testing of its Hatch agent platform, but the official version of the platform will instead use Meta’s own proprietary models. This move is expected to reduce Anthropic’s annualized revenue and put pressure on its IPO prospects.
