According to Nikkei Asia, Honda Motor and Nissan Motor are expected to reach an agreement as early as August 31, 2025, to jointly develop a shared operating system and onboard computer, which could be deployed in new vehicle models as early as 2029. Reuters reported that Honda stated no cooperation agreement has been finalized yet, but discussions are underway regarding "potential areas of collaboration" based on the strategic tripartite partnership among Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi Motors. Earlier this month, Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa said the company is in talks with Honda about potential cooperation in software-related fields. Honda and Nissan first announced in March 2024 that they were considering collaboration in multiple areas, including software-defined vehicles (SDVs), and initiated preliminary joint research. In December of the same year, the two companies launched merger negotiations, but those talks collapsed in February 2025. Since then, both companies have continued exploring cooperation on a project-by-project basis.
