On August 30, Microduck—a robotic duck developed by French robotics company Pollen Robotics—generated over $2.6 million in sales within 24 hours of its launch. Priced at $399, the robot was developed by Pollen Robotics, which was acquired by Hugging Face last year, and is expected to begin shipping around Christmas. Due to overwhelming pre-orders, the company stated it cannot guarantee delivery of all new orders before Christmas, with an estimated delivery window of four to six months for new purchases. Microduck can walk, sit, stand, kick a soccer ball, and pick up small objects, and it can right itself if it falls over. The robot is programmable, allowing users to train new movements using a physics-based simulator and then transfer them to the physical device. It is equipped with a camera, LiDAR, and motion sensors, and features a removable, rechargeable battery offering approximately one hour of runtime.
