On August 31, OpenClaw officially announced the release of version 2.0 (v2026.8.1) of its open-source AI assistant. This release was collaboratively developed by 933 contributors, including 569 first-time contributors, and incorporates over 16,000 merged pull requests. The update includes enhancements and fixes across installation, communication, skills, models, automation, browser and native applications, plugins, and security. The new version simplifies the installation process by automatically configuring settings based on the user’s existing environment—such as AI service subscriptions, API keys, or local models—and defers certain setup steps until after initial installation. Users can then complete further configuration through conversation with Claw. Additionally, the browser application now offers an improved user experience, enabling users to resume setup at any time, return to ongoing tasks, or participate in real-time interactions.
