At the company's interim earnings briefing held on September 2, 2026, Zhou Xiaoping, Chairwoman and General Manager of Changzhou Xingyu Lighting Co., Ltd. (Xingyu Shares), responded to the "fresh graduate layoff incident." She stated that the company had issued a public apology letter, was implementing relevant measures under the guidance of government authorities, and had filed complaints with cyberspace and cybersecurity departments against certain media outlets for publishing inaccurate reports. According to an August 25 notification from the Changzhou Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Xingyu Shares had hired 440 graduates from the class of 2026 but terminated employment contracts with 107 of them. During negotiations, the company employed overly simplistic and rigid methods and failed to communicate adequately and effectively, causing adverse social impact. As a result, the company has placed its HR director on administrative leave. The investigation found that Xingyu Shares did not improperly claim government subsidies related to employment or talent programs. As of August 25, 22 of the affected 107 graduates had secured new jobs, 14 were attending interviews with other companies, and the remaining individuals continued to receive employment assistance from local human resources authorities. On August 27, Xingyu Shares issued an apology letter acknowledging managerial errors in decision-making and execution, admitting that communication during implementation had been blunt and approaches overly simplistic, failing to consider the legitimate interests of fresh graduates. The company announced three remedial measures: (1) immediately providing a three-month job-seeking living allowance to all 107 affected graduates and continuing to offer free accommodation; (2) actively connecting them with suitable positions at other companies and organizing dedicated job fairs; and (3) offering compensation equivalent to six months’ salary to any individual still unemployed by November 30, 2026. Additionally, on September 1, Volkswagen Group stated it had received complaints regarding this incident and was conducting a special investigation. The automaker emphasized that respecting workers' lawful rights and interests is a core principle of its supply chain management.
