Ford’s All-Electric Fathom Pickup Debuts with Starting Price of $28,350

Ford unveiled the all-new all-electric Fathom pickup truck in Las Vegas on September 2. Starting at $28,350, it is the first vehicle built on Ford’s new scalable electric vehicle architecture, which will underpin a future lineup of more affordable EVs. The Fathom is offered initially in a rear-wheel-drive configuration with a standard lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. An optional front motor and larger battery enable all-wheel drive. Alan Clarke, Ford’s vice president of advanced product development, confirmed two battery options will be available, with the long-range variant targeting an estimated range of 483 kilometers (300 miles). The Fathom features seating for five and offers more interior space than the Toyota RAV4. All trims come standard with BlueCruise hands-free driver assistance, bidirectional charging capability, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital key functionality, and Apple Maps navigation. The vehicle’s high-voltage battery can power external devices—ideal for construction-site tools or emergency home backup power. Ford plans to begin building prototypes at its Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky in the first quarter of 2027, with initial customer deliveries later that year. Reservations are expected to open in early 2027. Ford stated the Fathom will primarily target fleet and commercial customers, serving as a testbed for its low-cost EV manufacturing strategy before expanding the approach to additional affordable electric models.
